Sustain our ‘Campus-of-Harmony’ image, Akogun tells new Student Union Exco

The Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, has urged members of the Executive Committee of the University’s Student Union to ensure the sustenance of the prevailing peace and harmony on the University campus.

Mr Akogun made this appeal last Wednesday (September 11, 2024) while welcoming the newly elected student leaders who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Pointing out that UNILORIN is generally known as ‘Campus of Harmony’ due to the prevailing crisis-free atmosphere in the institution, Mr Akogun said this is not because of the absence of occasional misunderstanding, but because of the way misunderstandings are handled by the management and the student body.

The Director said that while the University management always prioritises matters of student welfare because, according to him they (students) are the main reason for the existence of the University, the students on their part have always demonstrated uncanny maturity and understanding with the management.

Mr Akogun assured the student leaders that the University management, under the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, operates an open door policy and is always ready to protect the interest of the students.

While congratulating the student leaders on their recent election victories and swearing-in, the Director urged them to always carry the banner of the University aloft and continue to exhibit its ‘Better-by-far’ tendency.

Mr Akogun said that every stakeholder of the University is an image-maker of the institution and, therefore, urged the students to be good image makers of UNILORIN anywhere and everywhere they are.

The Director then assured the student executives that his Unit would be ready at all times to place its media outfits, such as the weekly UNILORIN Bulletin, the UNILORIN FM, as well as the University’s social media handles, at their service towards sustaining the harmonious student-management relationship.

Earlier in her remarks, the Vice President (Main Campus) of the student body, Miss Rodiyah Oyeronke Adegoke, who represented the Union’s President, explained that the reason for the visit was to seek positive collaborations between the Directorate and the Student Union.

Miss Adegoke appreciated Mr Akogun for his unwavering support to the Union and the relentless services of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs in blowing the trumpet of the University.

She urged Mr Akogun to always contact the Public Relations Officer of the Student Union whenever there is any vital information concerning the students in order for them to share such on time on the students’ social media platforms.

The Director was joined by a Deputy Director, Mr Olatunde Agboola, to receive the student leaders.

Other Student Union Executive Council members on the visit are the Vice President (CoHS), Olukorede Sarah Oreoluwa the General Secretary, Adebayo Usman Adeyinka; the Assistant General Secretary, Ganiyu Rahmat Bukola; the Public Relations Officer, Yunus Kamaldeen Olanrewaju; the Welfare Secretary (CoHS), Aminu Habeeb Abiodun; the Sports Secretary, Ajewole Joseph Olalekan; and the Social Secretary, Obalowu Abdulsamad Alabi.
